On Saturday, March 24 over 20 of the top high school choirs from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey competed in the 28th annual Roxbury Invitational. Downingtown East High School’s Vocal Ensemble was the top-rated Pop Choir in attendance.
The DEHS Masterworks Choir also earned special recognition in the Concert Choir division- receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award for their polished rendition of “Sicut Locutus Est” by Bach. Both of our school’s competing choirs earned Gold ratings (the only school in the festival to pull off such a feat). This is indicative of the depth of talent that exists across all grade levels in the DEHS Choir program. After our performances, the choirs received a clinic with collegiate-level music educators.
Additionally, four of our vocal soloists (along with their student accompanists) received their own performance opportunity with a workshop experience from professional singers and voice coaches. All of our choirs and soloists received written and recorded feedback from the adjudicators that we can review in class to learn and improve.
