For the first time ever, over 200 music students from DEHS took part in Festival Disney, a national music competition in Orlando, Florida from February 28- March 4. This is the first time in our school's history that the Symphonic Band, String Orchestra, and Masterworks Choir have all performed for adjudication. Our Marching Band and Color Guard members also participated in a Disney Performing Arts exhibition parade through the Magic Kingdom. The Symphonic Band and String Orchestra, each were awarded with an "Excellent" rating for their adjudicated performance. The Masterworks Choir was awarded a "Superior" rating and also took home a Silver trophy for having the second highest score in the festival which represented 17 fine ensembles from all over the country performing in various disciplines. The competition was very close - with only one point of difference between first and second place! All of our ensembles performed to the best of their ability and each of the directors is very proud of their students. They represented Downingtown well! All ensembles received a valuable clinic and masterclass after their performance with world-renowned music educators, composers, and university conductors along with recorded comments and written feedback that we will study in class in order to improve and learn. This festival was recognized and endorsed by the National Association for Music Education.
